Car travel and public transport to reach Mull, and around the island

Public Transport

Plan your train journey from Glasgow Queen Street to Oban with ScotRail.

Citylink coaches run between Oban and Glasgow Buchanan Street Bus Station.

For the public bus (coach) service on Mull, around Oban and the local area, see West Coast Motors service timetables and maps.

For private taxi cabs on Mull see the services listed here. Book in advance when possible.

Car Travel

Within Mull and around Ardnamurchan and Morvern, please remember that car journey times on single track roads can be significantly longer than you may be used to! As an example, the trip from Tobermory to Fionnphort (60 miles) for the Iona ferry can take one and a half hours.

Taking your car to Mull? Visit Mull & Iona's Guide to driving on the island's single track roads.

Harbour Garage in Tobermory offers car hire. Mull Car Hire is based near the Oban ferry terminal in Craignure.

Mull Weather

Keep an eye on the weather as Mull ferry crossings can often be cancelled in severe conditions, depending on the wind direction and sea swell.

See a live webcam image from Glenforsa (near Salen) showing the current weather conditions on the Sound Of Mull. Glenforsa Airfield near Salen is an unlicenced grass airfield suitable for light aircraft, operated by Argyll & Bute Council.

Accommodation Reviews

Find out all about Back Brae Lodge.

“We very much enjoyed our time at Back Brae Lodge. Weather mixed of course but no surprise there and Wednesday was a beautiful day. The location is ideal - tucked away yet right in the centre. Everything well provided for and the location is ideal. No problems at all with finding things etc. Currently on the return ferry and sorry to be leaving. A very enjoyable few days - I certainly hope to return. Thanks for all your help over the various delays and complications this year.”
